What are your treatment options for the effects of aging skin?

As your skin ages and begins to lose elasticity, you might notice your jowls, or the lower cheek and jaw areas on either side of the mouth, begin to sag down.

So what are your treatment options ?

Facial exercises

It has been suggested that facial exercises are supposed to tighten everything back up. However, these could have a detrimental effect on your skin because they don’t target the loose ligaments, fat loss or facial movements that caused the sagging in the first place.

The idea behind doing facial exercises is that as you get older and your face begins to sag, you’re start doing facial exercises to strengthen the muscles underneath the skin. The exercises generally consist of moving your lips and jaw, and pulling and pushing areas on your face.

The problem with all this pushing and pulling is that if your skin is no longer as resilient or elastic as it was before you could end up with more creases, wrinkles and sagging.

Salon/Surgical treatment options:

  1. Skin tightening with Radiofrequency and Near Infrared lazers - from £175 per treatment. May require multiple treatment sessions.

  2. 60-minute Facelift Facial - average £400 per treatment, requires average of 6 treatments to be effective.

  3. Chemical peel with acid and enzymes. Costs range from £50 - £500 per treatment. May require multiple treatment sessions.

  4. Surgical Facelift. Full surgical procedure to remove excess skin and recontour the face. Costs range from £4100-£9500.

  5. MicroLipo - liposuction, fat removal and body sculpting procedure. Costs from £2300.

(Costs taken from a range of UK websites.)

There are of course much less costly, non-invasive home treatment options available!
