What should you do when you find your first grey hair!!!!!?

This post is dedicated to my friend Abbie. I met Abbie a few months ago when we both attended our post-natal group; Abbie's little boy is 4-weeks younger that Mia, and Abbie's 27. Abbie will testify that I 'bang on' about using good anti-ageing skin care; one of the things I'm passionate about.......

Abbie was telling me last weekend her friend screeched in horror and told her that she had a grey hair - one of those thick wiry ones that we all start off with - and she promptly pulled it out! I took the opportunity to tell Abbie 'I told you so!!!'and looked very smug!!!!

So, what happens when we pull out a grey hair?

Well the first thing to say is that it absolutely doesn't end up giving you 6 more!!! The hair comes out of one follicle, and the lack of colour in the follicle can't spread to the other follicles. However, by pulling out the grey hair you may be causing damage to the follicle which could end up with:

  1. Permanent damage to the follicle so the hair grows thick and course, or has an uneven, wiry or frizzy texture.

  2. Permanent damage to the follicle so that hair doesn't grow anymore.

  3. Thinning hair.

So, my advice is either go grey gracefully, or see your hairdresser for advice.
