You Are Your Brand..... What The Heck Does That Mean!?

Since Attraction Marketing really took off in recent years there has also been a lot of talk about 'Your Brand'.

When I started out, fellow marketers, coaches and mentors used to tell me that I needed to 'Brand' myself, and I had absolutely no clue as to what that meant, or how to go about it!

Of course, 'You Are Your Brand' means EXACTLY that!

But that doesn't really help you to understand' Your Brand', or what it means for your business......

People used to say to me 'just be yourself', 'every time you do a video you're creating your brand', 'I can see your brand emerging on your FB Page'.

And I was always, like, I've no idea what you're talking about!

So, what is personal branding?

  • Personal branding is where you establish what you stand for.

  • Personal branding is when you promote what you stand for.

  • Your brand is defined by your personal experiences and the skills you've developed, and continue to develop.

  • Your brand is unique to you because no-one else is you!

You might also be wondering why branding yourself is important.

Most of us associate brands with big companies like McDonalds, Microsoft, and Disney,

and when you think of those companies an image and thought IMMEDIATELY pops into your head.

The same applies to a personal brand.

What pops into your head when you think about someone like Donald Trump?

Love him or hate him, you see a man with (what appears to me) dyed ginger hair, who likes to make a circle with his thunb and fore-finger when he talks, and is a multimillionnaire with all the benefits that go with that financial status.

Or people like Eric Worre, Ray Higdon, or Todd Falcone.

There's an immediate image and thought, right?

That's their brand.

You may have an opinion about that image and thought, and that's based on your experience of them, but that's not their brand.

The same applies for you.

When people think about you, an immediate image and thought pops into their head that they associate with you.

And people do searches on the internet for the likes of those I mentioned above.

And guess what.....

people do searches on the internet for you too.

Just think about that for a second......

What image or thought do you want people to have when they think about you, or when they search on the internet for you?

I think it goes without saying

that although your brand is you,

you do need to understand exactly what this means for you,

and the question is.....

How do you begin to understand who you are as a brand?

You need to ask yourself a few questions

that will help you to understand 'Your Brand', which, of course, is you!

  1. Who are you?

  2. What makes you unique?

  3. What is your vision for who you are, and who you want to be?

  4. What do you want to achieve with your personal brand?

  5. What are your goals for your business?

  6. Who is your audience?

  7. How can you help them? What makes you different from all the other people out there trying do the same as you?

  8. What’s your Unique Selling Point?

  9. What makes you reliable and trustworthy?

  10. How do you prove that? What’s the evidence?

In this blog you can read about how to establish who your audience is,

but for now,

spend some time writing down the answers to questions above and you'll see your brand beginning to emerge.

Happy Branding!
